Three teens have been charged with exacerbated assault and have each paid a $ 20,000 deposit.
A teenager in Texas was hospitalized after being brutally beaten by his classmates for what his family called “strange” and “evil behavior.” Classmates claimed that the attack was caused by improper behavior against women in the circle.
According to a police affidavit, 16-year-old Cole Hagan attended a pool party in Lake Jackson, Texas on December 3, and some of his Brazoswood High School colleagues said his truck had been beaten.
Upon going out, Hagan was ambushed by 17-year-old Reed Mitchell, a teammate on his national team who had planned an attack for several days, according to a witness statement submitted to police.
Another student, Logan Hoover, who was accused of being involved in the attack, told police, “Lead Mitchell’s punch (Cole Hargan), bear hug, slamming on the ground, then riding on him and elbowing his face. He said he witnessed “bend.” “According to the affidavit.
Mitchell then said to one of Hagan’s friends, “Bring your boy.” According to the affidavit, two of Hagan’s friends found him “lying on a street bleeding from his ears.”
Mitchell was charged with aggravated assault and got a $ 20,000 bond. Hoover, 18, and Aiden Holland, 17, have both been accused of seducing Hagan outside the pool party and have been charged with assault and released on bail. Police documents report that at least eight other students were aware of the planned attack before the attack occurred.
“At this point, we believe that all parties have been identified and other accusations are pending,” according to a statement by Lake Jackson police. A spokesperson for the agency told insiders that it was unable to provide additional details due to active investigations.
After Hargan was first assaulted, he was transferred to the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Hagan was ventilated because of multiple cerebral hemorrhage, skull and clavicle fractures.
When he regained consciousness, Hagan thought he was in an accident, and the first thing he did was ask if his friends were okay, his 36-year-old brother Corey Hagan I told the insider. The Hargan brothers described him as someone who “loves his friends” and “will do anything for them.”
“It was who he was that killed me on the spot, and that’s why it made this so vicious,” said Hagan’s brothers. “They chose the weakest link. They weren’t the kids who were going to get out there and fight you in the yard when you called him, so they had to be invited out to fight. I chose a person who must. ”
As of Wednesday, the Netherlands is the only suspect to hold a lawyer, a spokesman for the Justice of the Peace office told insiders. Mitchell’s parents did not respond to insider requests for comment.
“I cried very much for the past week,” said Hagan’s brother. “Now I’m focusing on what makes him better. I’m focusing on our role in making these people accountable.”
He believed there was a video of the assault and said he rewarded the person who handed it over to the police. The Hagan brothers initially offered a $ 1,000 reward, but the reward rose to about $ 25,000 as some people offered to market it to make it more profitable.
“I would be surprised if nothing was made into a video, but if it was made into a video, I think it was only for those who could have problems if it was aired,” Hagan said. The brother said.
“Accumulation of hostility”
Mitchell said in a statement to police that there was an “accumulation of hostility” between him and Hagan because of Hagan’s “recognized behavior towards some of the female acquaintances.”
Mitchell said Hagan was “captured” and “nothing happened” with his friend’s girlfriend, but then “he went with Mitchell’s girlfriend and started over.” At the party, Mitchell was sent a photo of her girlfriend with Hagan, according to a police statement. He then confronted Hagan and said, “I told him he hadn’t learned yet because he did it so many times.” Then he threw Hagan to the ground and hit him many times, Mitchell told police.
Police documents say the Netherlands and Hoover returned to police “to issue a new statement because they excluded information from the first statement” after issuing the first statement to the police.
The Netherlands was upset as Hargan “played with his friend’s girlfriend and began sending text messages with Mitchell’s girlfriend,” according to an affidavit. The Netherlands sexually assaulted her. I also mentioned the girl who claimed. ” Holland’s lawyer did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
In a second interview, Hoover claimed that Hagan “behaved improperly against women, including Mitchell’s girlfriend, and his actions extended to sexual assault on strangers.” Evidence of such a claim was not provided in the affidavit. Lake Jackson police could not confirm whether they were investigating the complaint due to an ongoing investigation.
Hagan’s brothers called the suspect “not just disgusting, but more importantly, they are false,” and “just handed over money and accountability” in allegations of improper behaviour. I’m trying to avoid it. ”
“You are lying about a good child who has been completely assaulted and neglected,” said Hagan’s brother. “Even if my brother did it, I can assure you that he didn’t … News Flash to Reed Mitchell-still violating the law to do what he did. increase.”
“Cole is the most passive guy I’ve ever met, whether it’s a girl or football,” he added.
The Hargan brothers said he had spoken to his brother’s friends about the incident and allegations made against Hargan.
“When I called his friend, (one of them) said it had reached an agreement. They liked each other. They were talking to each other on Snapchat,” Corey said. .. “Boys go out with girls, they break up, girls find someone else, they get messed up, and guys get angry.”
“These high school boys and young men feel like they own these girls to date, even when they break up,” Hagan’s brother added. “They think they can tell them who they can take pictures with, who they can stand with, and who their next boyfriend can be.”
A spokesperson for Brazoswood High School did not respond to multiple requests for comment, but the school wrote to parents that the attacking student was “not on campus.”
“We look forward to the cooperation of students, staff and the Brazoswood community to help victims and their families. No retaliation or intimidation is tolerated and students will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Will be, “Brazoswood ISD said in a statement.Obtained by ABC 13..
“We haven’t received one apology from the parents or young adults involved in it. We didn’t have an ounce of remorse,” Hagan’s brother added.
Uncertain recovery and derailed future
Hagan, a third-year high school student, wanted to play college football, but he “probably never plays soccer again,” his brother said.
After spending a week in the intensive care unit, Hagan was transferred to rehab, where his speech and maneuverability continued to improve. Still, his family is uncertain whether he will fully recover.
“After such a skull fracture, the last thing you need to do is put on a helmet and hit someone else’s head,” said Hagan’s brother. “He will have to protect his head, it’s a pain. It was his number one passion.”
Hargan’s brother is grateful for the progress in his investigation into his attack, but said that the main focus of him and his family was to help Hargan’s recovery.
“The Lake Jackson police station has already arrested three people,” he said. “I’m hoping for more arrests, but things are going in the right direction and I’m grateful for it. Just as we’re angry about the attack on the family, he Thank you for your progress as well. And all your support. “
Hagan’s brother continued: “I’ve been crying so much this week … now I’m focused on getting better.”
