Eight teenage girls facing second-degree murder charges in the death of a homeless man in Toronto are due to appear in court. Deposit hearing in the new year.

Toronto police said three 13-year-olds, three 14-year-olds and two 16-year-olds stabbed a 59-year-old man in a downtown core in mid-December and later died in hospital. .

The defendant’s identity cannot be made public under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

During a brief court appearance on Thursday, the lawyer for one of the girls requested that a video of the alleged attack posted on popular online video platform TikTok be made public.

The judge said some of the teens were still in the process of hiring a lawyer, which was also why the case had to be postponed.

The teens are scheduled to appear in Deposit hearing In Youth Court on January 5, 2023.

Police believe the teenagers got together after meeting on social media and said they live in separate homes in the Greater Toronto Area.
