A dog devouring a short but scary stint in a gorilla enclosure at the San Diego Zoo Made a national headlineThe San Diego Humane Society said in a statement sent to the HuffPost that it had reunited with his owner. Formerly known as “Mighty Joe Young” in honor of encountering apes, the real name of a mischievous dog is meatballs.

Last week, San Diego Zoo visitors and zookeepers were shocked to see a loose dog invading a gorilla pen. Video from onlookers I even showed one of the gorillas chasing a dog in an instant.

Fortunately, zoo staff were able to keep the gorillas away when workers at the San Diego Humane Society recovered the dogs. The animal shelter was planning an adoption if the family couldn’t be found, but the meatball owner came forward and regained him over the weekend.

The organization said, “I’m very happy to see him go home.” He said he had been cleaned up by a veterinarian and castrated from the shelter. This ordeal also provided an opportunity to increase the security of meatballs.

“The meatball family was able to install a trolley system in their yard so they could run and explore without the risk of wandering home again in the future,” the statement said. ..
