Officials say the fire was deliberately set and caused enormous damage to the church on 28 December.
Prosecutors also allege that Mr. Wurchev was responsible for several other fires on the church grounds last December and the cutting of car tires in the area.
Law enforcement officials began to suspect Mr. Vulchev after he was found on several security cameras, including a Tesla car with damaged tires.
Just before the arson on December 28, Mr. Vulchev’s own vehicle, the Silver Chevrolet Cruze, was also confirmed in a video footage of a city near the church.
Prosecutors say location data from Mr. Wurchev’s phone indicated that he was near or at the scene of the crime.
FBI agents have concluded that Mr. Vulchev has arsoned for his hatred of African Americans and his support for white supremacy.
“A subsequent search for Vulchev’s vehicles and electronics revealed a message from Vulchev’s hatred of blacks, according to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Massachusetts,” from Vulchev in December 2020. Contains the recent message “Eliminate all N ****”. ..
“In addition, the device contained an image showing Vulchev’s racial anima against blacks.”
The suspect remains in detention and will appear in federal court in Springfield for the first time in the future.
Mr. Wurchev was charged with damages to religious property and the use of fire to commit federal felony.
He faces a total of 30 years in prison, both indicted and fined $ 250,000.
