Last week, a man called a “freak accident” died in a drive-through window. McDonald’s In Vancouver, Canada.
Vancouver Police Said The man opened the door to get what he had dropped through the window while paying. The car rolled forward when he leaned forward to open the door and get it. The door hit a part of the restaurant and he was fixed between the door and the frame.
“First responders made efforts to revive the man, but tragically he died on the scene,” said the Vancouver Police Department. Tania Vicintin said in a news release. “This is an absolutely tragic scenario. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to this man’s family and friends.”
Police said there was a surveillance footage of the accident, but they are looking for not only witnesses, but also drivers who may have had footage of the incident’s dashcam.
“Usually when you hear about a fatal car accident, it’s [is] Usually it is a collision with another vehicle. Visintin 680 told the news.. “So the fact that no other vehicle was involved … this seems like an unusual accident.”
The victim’s name has not been published.
Such accidents are not unprecedented in drive-through windows, as people trying to get something back out of the car can lean out through open doors without parking the car.
