Police said a 43-year-old man set fireworks overhead and died suddenly in San Antonio.
Police reported that San Antonio police officers were called into a residential area after midnight on Tuesday, July 5, after the fireworks accident.
According to police, first responders found the victim suffering from severe head injuries with exposed brain material from the skull.
Police reported that the victim, identified by the Bexar County Medical Inspector’s Office as 43-year-old Pablo Ruiz, died shortly after police arrived.
A friend of Lewis who witnessed the fatal incident said he was drinking when he chose to light a mortar-style firework from the top of his head. Investigators believe it somehow exploded from the bottom of the tube and pierced the top of his skull.
