Mexico City (AP) — Mexican officials said shooters shot and killed a man in a boat on a popular beach in a resort on the Pacific coast of Acapulco.
Police in southern Guerrero said a shooting attack occurred on Monday at Majawa Beach in Puerto Marquez, just off Acapulco’s main bay.
Puerto Marquez, on the eastern side of Acapulco, is home to more upscale tourism than Main Bay, which has been hit by violence for the past 15 years.
After that, the attacker seems to have escaped to the boat.
The attack occurred after Mexico’s tourism industry was at stake due to a series of killings along the Caribbean coast of Mexico.
The most recent incident involved a squad of armed men who killed two alleged drug dealers in a November 4 gun battle on the beaches of Puerto Morelos in southern Cancun.
Bloodshed during the day sent tourists scrambling for coverage at two large hotels where local drug gangs were apparently competing for drug sales.
In October, travel blogger Anjali Ryot of San Jose, California and Jennifer Henzold, a German citizen, were killed in a case that prosecutors said looked like a clash over street-level drug sales in the nearby resort of Tulum.
On October 20, three other foreign tourists were injured in a shooting at a restaurant along the street just off the main strip of Tulum. They included two German men and one Dutch female.
