A Tennessee woman died in the Grand Canyon National Park after falling into the Colorado River, officials say

A 47-year-old woman, identified as the Sitar Patel, was cool along the nearby Pipe Creek Beach when she was caught up in the Colorado River on Saturday, according to park officials.

The Grand Canyon Regional Communication Center received reports of passengers on a commercial river trip that fell into the Colorado River around 2 pm.

The commercial guide arrived at Patel by boat and was able to pull her from the river to start CPR.

She was declared dead by the park ranger.

According to park officials, Patel hiked to the canyon and began a few days of boating from Phantom Ranch.

In collaboration with the Coconino County Coroner, the National Park Service is investigating the case.
