A man was charged with murder last week after a female friend found her body on a couch in the living room, according to a Texas police officer.
According to an affidavit of possible causes, two of Jennifer Garrett’s friends went to her Texarkana’s house to check her after she didn’t commute on August 12. Garrett’s car was outside the house and a friend tracked her phone to show that she was inside, police said.
But when 27-year-old Travis Alston Turner broke the door and opened it, police told a female friend that he had no girlfriend there and hadn’t returned home the night before.
After waiting for Turner to leave, friends used their credit cards to break into the house and unlock the door, court documents show. They found a 29-year-old friend dead on the sofa in the living room, five feet away from the front door.
They contacted the police and the police officer who responded detained Turner when he returned home. Turner did not make a statement to the police.
According to police, Garrett is likely to have died between four and twelve hours. According to the affidavit, her body showed signs of strangulation.
Turner, who said the officer had a “history of assault,” was charged with murder.
According to the affidavit, he was arrested in July after being accused of assaulting his mother. He was also arrested in Arkansas in February after the shooting, police said.
