Police said a 38-year-old mother stabbed her husband and teenage daughter on Monday night in northwestern Miami-Dade before turning her own knife.
Officers also found a 15-month-old girl in a seriously injured woman in a house in the area of Northwest 30th Avenue and 99th Street. According to police spokesman Alvaro Zavaleta, the baby was taken to a nearby hospital where he died. Police did not disclose details about the baby’s injury.
The mother, not identified by police, was taken to the hospital for treatment. She has been detained and is facing “very serious criminal charges,” Zavaleta said.
The 38-year-old husband and 16-year-old daughter were taken by helicopter to the Rider Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
According to Zabaleta, some reports of puncture wounds came around 8:45 pm. The injured husband was found on the lawn in the front yard. My 16-year-old daughter was at her neighbor’s house. The couple’s other four children, all under the age of 11, escaped home without injury.
When police officers tried to enter the house, the mother came out with what looked like a “self-harm stab wound,” Zavaleta said.
“It’s unclear what caused this violence,” Zabaleta said. “It was a very sad day for a 15-month-old child to die from domestic violence, but given that he had six children at home, this could have been even worse.”
