A Minnesota man was sentenced to imprisonment after a prosecutor said he had sexually assaulted a 16-year-old boy on a plane.

The prosecution said on release on January 28 that during the flight, 41-year-old Chopra was allowed to put a blanket on his knees and cover part of the minor’s legs. He then placed his hands under the blanket and touched his 16-year-old crotch and thighs, court documents said.
Chopra’s lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment from McClatchy News.
According to court documents and news releases, teens repeatedly tried to leave Chopra and asked him to stop touching him. Chopra continued to invade the boy’s personal space, and the boy began taking pictures of the encounter as evidence, court documents said.
According to the document, the 16-year-old was very uncomfortable as Chopra began to cry because of repeated touches.
The boy caught the attention of his brother, who was sitting in front of him, and when the plane landed, his family spoke to law enforcement agencies, court documents said.
In a three-day trial, Chopra said he “unintentionally” touched the boy’s inner thighs, groin, and genitals while having “bad dreams” during the flight. According to the judgment document, the jury rejected this and found Chopra convicted of abusive sexual contact.
Chopra was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
