The owners of Labrand’s Landing Event Center didn’t know much about the upcoming event on Sunday, the general manager told Enquirer.
The client just requested to rent space for an event involving the writer of “Hill Billy Elegy” and Senate candidate JD Vance.
Then on Thursday, General Manager Jody Taylor logged on to her computer. A large number of messages on her social media and emails welcomed her from people who were angry with her event. And the phone started to come in.
The The event was an “encounter” with JD Vance Controversial Georgia Republican Party lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene has just endorsed Vance.

After discussing with the owners, management felt they weren’t in a position to host the event, Taylor said. She said they didn’t know it was open to the public, and there would be an unknown number of people.
“It was a very emotional topic that we chose to respect it,” Taylor said. “People are passionate about what they believe. We were wondering what was going on. We didn’t know there were guests.”
They asked the Vence campaign to find another place.
Management then posted a notification on the Facebook page.
“We have moved to Marriott NE in Deerfield Twp because of the great interest in the JD Vance presentation that was scheduled to take place here this Sunday. Thank you for your interest and concern.”
According to Taylor, the Landing Event Center didn’t want to dive into politics.
“It doesn’t matter what we do,” Taylor said. “We are upset on both sides.”
Activists are now trying to stop the appearance of Green and Vence in Mason. The Mason-Deerfield Township Democratic Club and others have shared a link that encourages people to call Marriott, reserve a seat to take up space, and ask Mayor Mason to stand up.
According to the Vence campaign, as of Saturday morning, the event is still going for Mason.
