Caseia Thorpe of the United States won the Global Teacher Award in Paris at its UNESCO headquarters. The annual award is supported by the Varkey Foundation and is awarded to teachers who have made outstanding professional contributions. English teachers in Maryland are selected from more than 8,000 candidates and are campaigning to improve access to higher education. It is especially aimed at non-English speaking high school students, first generation migrants and refugees.
