The Queensland Government has halved the quarantine period for those who are considered to be in close contact with COVID-19 cases.
The new rules mean that full vaccinated close contact is only required for 7 days of quarantine instead of 14 days. It came into effect at 1:00 am on December 22nd.
Close contact includes those who have been in face-to-face contact for 15 minutes with a confirmed case of COVID-19, a disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.
Close contacts should return negative test results on both the first and fifth days of the quarantine period.
The change was planned for January 1, 2022, but has been advanced as the state has reached a 90% milestone for eligible Queenslanders to initially administer one of the approved COVID-19 vaccines.
Stephen Miles, Deputy Premier of Queensland and Deputy Minister of Health, welcomed the advice of the Chief Health Officer.

Queensland Chief Health Officer John Gerard said the move was in line with national guidelines.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tait has requested the state government to abolish the quarantine requirements due to high immunization rates.
