Houston (AP) — ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill, one of the Texas blues trio bearded figures, has died at his home in Houston, the band announced Wednesday on Facebook. He was 72 years old.

In their post, guitarist Billy Gibbons and drummer Frank Beard said he died while Hill was asleep. They didn’t reveal the cause of death, but a July 21st post on the band’s website said Hill “has a little detour to Texas to deal with hip problems.”

At the time, the band stated that longtime guitar technician Elwood Francis would be responsible for bass, slide guitar and harmonica.

Born to Joe Michael Hill in Dallas, he, Gibbons and Beard formed ZZ Top in Houston in the late 1970s.
