The TikTok and WeChat bans that began during the Trump administration have basically been put on hold after Bi took the stage. Today, things have finally made substantial progress. Not long ago, President Biden officiallyRevokeThe executive order issued by Trump. In the future, the download and use of TikTok and WeChat in the United States will no longer be restricted, and the United States will no longer force companies to sell their businesses.

However, at the same time, Biden also issued a new administrative order requiring the Ministry of Commerce to conduct security assessments on TikTok, WeChat and other software and services that may be linked to “foreign enemies” (including China, of course). During the evaluation, the official needs to conduct an analysis “based on evidence” to determine whether the data management operations of the subject pose a threat to the national security of the United States (TikTok also needs to face the review of an independent government team on the handling of international transactions).

So in general, TikTok and WeChat have survived, but the tense relationship between China and the United States means that at least in a short period of time, apps and services from China will not be worry-free.
