Moscow — A performer at the famous Bolshoi Theater in Moscow was killed on Saturday in an accident on the opera stage, the theater said.
Bolshoy, one of Russia’s most famous theaters, said the incident occurred during a set change of the opera “Satoko” by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
“The opera was stopped immediately and the audience was asked to leave,” the theater said in a comment from Interfax.
A Moscow investigator said he was investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 37-year-old performer. It did not reveal his identity.
Interfax news quoted sources saying the performers were crushed by the lamps during the changing landscape. Sources told RIA and TASS news agencies that he had been killed by the fall of ornaments.
Borshoy has been tragedy in the past.
In July 2013, a senior violinist fell into the orchestra pit and died.
