Brittany Force tops qualifying at NHRA Mile High Nationals

Morrison, Colorado (AP) — Brittany Force won first place in the final Top Fuel Qualifying session at the NHRA Mile High Nationals on Saturday at Bandimia Speedway.

The Force ran 3.758 seconds at 325.61 mph on Thunder Mountain, taking first place in the fourth qualifying session of the season and 36th overall.

“I feel better today with two passes and I’m in a great position for tomorrow,” Force said. “I’m trying to get back to the top as a point leader in tomorrow’s match. I’ve had a hard time here in the past and I’m aiming to turn it around here.”

Matt Hagan leads the funny car space, Aaron Stanfield is the fastest in pro stock, and Matt Smith leads in pro stock motorcycles.

Defending event winner Hagan closed the fourth top spot of the year with 3.908 at 323.12 on the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.

Stanfield secured his fourth No. 1 qualifying of the season at 196.82 at Chevrolet at 6.934.

Smith set both ends of the track record in Buell on Saturday, winning the second No. 1 of the year at 7.090 at 189.79.
