Bus crashes in Pakistan, killing 28 passengers and injuring 40

Multan, Pakistan (AP) — A highway bus carrying workers returning home for a major Muslim vacation hits a container truck on Monday on a crowded highway in central Pakistan, killing at least 28 people. Forty people were injured, police and rescue officials said.

The bus left the city of Sialkot and ran on Townsa Street. The destination was the city of Delagajikhan in eastern Punjab, said Hassanjabed, a senior police officer. He said the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Rescue teams carried the dead and injured to a nearby hospital. Some of the injured were in serious condition, according to Shah Khan, who was in charge of the rescue team at the scene. He said passengers were traveling to their hometown of Rajanpur to celebrate the upcoming Eid al-Adha feast.

In Pakistan, fatal accidents are common due to poor road infrastructure and ignoring traffic laws.
