Canadian train derailment, spills of wood and tar sands

Blackfalds, Alberta — Trains carrying oil sands and timber derailed in Alberta, Canada, spilling at least some of their luggage, officials said, but no injuries were reported.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Blackfalds said the crew was working to contain the spill on Friday night, but the extent was not immediately apparent. Cleaning continued on Saturday, and I saw a huge pile of spilled trees along the railroad tracks.

Police said they were changing traffic routes and urged people to avoid areas near the city of Rakhum.
