The City of Toronto is investigating a major power outage in the downtown core yesterday, including office buildings, a major shopping mall and a university campus.
Hydro One says the power outage occurred after a crane-loaded barge hit an overhead power line on the city’s waterfront.
The City of Toronto said the outage may have been caused by a subcontractor of the Ashbridge Bay Treatment Plant Spillway project.
The city says it requested the report from the prime contractor to “understand what happened and what needs to be done to prevent this from happening again.”
Hydro Toronto said about 10,000 customers were affected by the outage, which occurred around 12:30 p.m.
The customer’s electricity was restored around 20:00 last night.
