The Department of Veterans Affairs announced on Monday that 115,000 of the “most patient-facing” workers will need to be vaccinated with COVID-19 within the next two months. Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Monday that all state employees and health care workers will be required to be vaccinated with COVID-19 or will face tests at least weekly.

From August 9, approximately 246,000 state officials will be subject to this requirement, according to the Governor.

Monday’s policy will take place after the city of San Francisco, several counties in the Bay Area, the University of California, and numerous hospital systems across the country have announced similar measures.

Last month, a federal judge in Texas dismissed a lawsuit filed by an employee of the Houston Methodist Hospital that challenged the hospital’s COVID-19 vaccine requirements.
