New York (AP) — Clint Frazier’s tenure with the Yankees was when New York designated him to appoint him to open a roster spot for prospects prior to the draft Winter Meeting on Friday. It may have ended after one unsatisfied season.
Frazier can be exempted by another Major League Baseball team. Otherwise, he could be fully assigned to a minor, but he has at least three years of Major League Baseball service and is entitled to refuse the assignment and become a free agent.
Infielders Rougned Odor and Tyler Wade have also been appointed.
The 27-year-old Frazier was selected fifth overall in the 2013 Amateur Draft by Cleveland and was acquired by the Yankees in a July 2016 trade to send relief Andrew Miller to the Indians.
Frazier made his major league debut in July 2017, but the outfielder has never played more than 246 at-bats in a season. His 2018 season was wrecked and concussed when he hit an outfield wall in Bradenton, Florida during a spring training game, limiting his turn at bat to 41 times.
He hit .267 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs in 2019, but struggled to defend and Boston when he misplayed the ball from the bats of Eduardo Núñez, Andrew Benintendi and Michael Chavis in June. Reached the lowest point against.
His defense has improved significantly by the season, but he hit .186 with five home runs and 15 RBIs. He didn’t play after June 30th because the Yankees called him dizzy.
“I want an opportunity to talk publicly about this situation, and I’m probably planning to do so soon,” Frazier wrote on Twitter on October 11. Personally, there are many inaccurate reports of my injuries and I will resolve them. “
Frazier received a salary of $ 2.1 million last season and was subject to arbitration.
Brian Cashman, general manager of the Yankees, said Frazier was exercising in Atlanta before 2022 last week.
“When he enters next season, there are many expectations and optimism that what happened will not be a problem,” Cashman said.
New York also replaced right-handed Nick Nelson with Philadelphia Phillies and minor league catcher Donnie Sands with minor league infielder TJ Ramfield and left-handed Joel Valdes.
The move allowed the Yankees to protect five prospects in the draft Winter Meeting next month. The Yankees have opted for contracts with right-handed Stephen Ridings and Ron Marinach, infielder Oswald Cabrera, outfielder Everson Pereira, and left-handed JP Sears major league roster.
