Chris Stapleton was the big winner of the night and brought back singles, songs, the Album of the Year, and the male vocalist of the Year, but there were many unexpected moments. Many were surprised when Luke Combs was first named Entertainer of the Year, beating Stapleton, Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, and Carrie Underwood. Meanwhile, Carly Pearce won the first female vocalist of the trophy this year and was so emotional that her friend Ashley McBryde went on stage and spoke for her.
