Conflict-ravaged Haiti becomes new prime minister

Ariel Henry became the new Prime Minister of Haiti about two weeks after Haiti’s President Jovenel Moise was assassinated.

The late president asked Henry to take on the job a few days before he was shot in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

However, Henry was in a political battle with Haiti’s interim prime minister at the time of the attack, Claude-Joseph.

Joseph resigned on Monday, saying Henry’s appointment would pave the way for the September elections.

At the ceremony in Port-au-Prince, the new Prime Minister called for unity.

“One of my priorities is to reassure people to do everything to restore order and security,” said Henry, according to Agence France-Presse.

Joseph joined him at the ceremony and warned of future challenges.
