Beijing returns to work after a five-day COVID break
Story: The streets of the capital encourage people to work from home, and as part of COVID precautions, more than 10% of bus lines and subway stations complicate commuting from normal working days. Wasn’t too crowded. Still, many subway trains seemed crowded and the office district was busy. Many people have traveled by bicycle. Blockades of homes and closures of gyms, restaurants and other places continued to be effective. Nonetheless, the residents interviewed by Reuters were unwilling to expand the COVID-19 curb in many public facilities as authorities stepped up their efforts in line with the country’s uncompromising “Zero Corona” policy. Mainland China reported 5,113 new cases of coronavirus on May 4. The National Health Commission said Thursday that 373 of them were symptomatic and 4,740 were asymptomatic.
