A woman known in some areas as “Grandma” by community members washington dc Neighbors helped a 15-year-old girl into an ambulance after she was suspected of trying to hijack a car on her way to undergo chemotherapy.
The attempted carjacking occurred at approximately 8:30 am on February 17 in the Southeast 22nd Street neighborhood. Metropolitan Police DepartmentPolice say the victim tried to drag the girl out of the car while screaming for help from family members.
The woman told WJLA that he told her not to get in his car.
“The next thing I knew, he walked over and said, ‘Give me the keys, I have a gun.’ I said, ‘Baby, you won’t take my car. You should shoot me,” said the woman.

After she cried out for help, neighbors in the area rushed to her aid. The teenage suspect tried to escape but was caught by neighbors.
“They caught him and I said, ‘Oh, you’re going to jail today. You’re definitely going to jail, yes, that’s right,'” the woman said.
