Deaths from migrant shipwrecks off Tunisia increase to 17

Tunis — Civil protection officials told Reuters on Saturday as migrants wrecked off the coast of Tunisia on Friday killed 17 people, most of them Syrian and tried to cross the Mediterranean to Italy.

He said the Coast Guard recovered five bodies on Saturday after finding twelve on Friday. The search was still in progress.

In recent months, more and more attempts have been made to travel from Tunisia and Libya to Italy to Europe, and several have drowned along the Tunisia coast.
