Doncic goes 60-21-10 to rally Mavs to win over Knicks in OT


DALLAS (AP) — Luka Doncic posted a franchise-record 60 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists for a historic triple-double. tying a basket from a deliberately missed free throw Tuesday night forced overtime as the Dallas Mavericks beat the New York Knicks 126-121.

With Dallas down nine and 33 seconds left in regulation, Doncic intentionally missed a free throw, hit a loose ball on the rebound and hit a jumper to tie the game 115-115. 1.0 seconds remaining.

The first 60-point game in Dallas history also included Doncic’s career-high rebounding and was the first 60-20-10 game in NBA history. The 23-year-old superstar achieved his seventh triple-double of the season.

The Mavericks hit .500-plus in three games, winning four in a row. Both marks are comparable to season bests.

Quentin Grimes scored a career-high 33 points, while Dallas native Julius Randle had 29 points and 18 rebounds.

Jalen Brunson missed the game with a hip injury and missed the game he should have been back in Dallas.

After Myles McBride missed one of two free throws with 11.5 seconds remaining, 25-pointer Spender Dinwiddie hit a 3-pointer to bring Dallas within 113-112.

McBride made the next two free throws for a 115-112 lead with 7.7 seconds remaining, then Grimes fouled Doncic before the Dallas superstar attempted a possible 3-pointer.

The Mavericks inserted seldom-used center JaVale McGee for the rebound, and Dallas kept the ball alive on Doncic’s deliberate mistake. The ball bounced off the Slovenian star, who scored his 11-foot jumper to equalize.

Dallas took the lead in regulation with less than a minute left, but didn’t trail in overtime. Doncic hit two free throws midway through overtime to give the Mavs a 118-116 lead.

Branson missed the first game of the season in his first visit to Dallas. This point guard spent his first four his seasons before signing with the Knicks in free agency last summer.

The two-time NCAA champion from Villanova was able to face his former team in New York in early December when the Mavericks pulled off a 121-100 victory.

Knicks: Immanuel Quickley, who started for Branson, had a career-high 15 assists and 13 points. …Mitchell Robinson tallied his career-high 20 points and his 16 rebounds.

Mavericks: F Dorian Finney-Smith will miss at least two more weeks with a right adductor strain that has kept him out of the last four games. …Christian Wood has 19 points and he has 9 rebounds.
