Eight Palestinians were killed and two more injured in a truck-van collision on a narrow two-lane highway in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, according to Israeli medical personnel.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared a day to mourn the victims on Friday. Thousands of Palestinian workers work in the Israeli settlement along Highway 90 through the Jordan Valley.
Videos circulating online seemed to show that the truck hit the van head-on as the van tried to turn left on the freeway.
Israeli Magen David Adom rescue team confirmed seven dead and said three were evacuated by military helicopters for treatment. Israeli and Palestinian media later reported that one of the injured had died.
