Explosion occurs outside Kabul Airport

An explosion occurred on Thursday near an airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.

The explosion reportedly occurred near the gate to the airport.

“We have seen an explosion outside Kabul Airport. No casualties are known at this time. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said in a social media post.

The explosion occurred shortly after British military minister James Heappey warned that there was a “very credible” threat to Kabul’s airport being attacked by an ISIS terrorist group within hours.

The United Kingdom, the United States and Australia urged citizens not to travel to the airport late Wednesday.

The US Embassy in Kabul has warned of unspecified “security threats”.
