In Colombia, there was the first case of a highly contagious COVID-19 delta variant, confirmed by Colombian President Ivan Duque on Saturday.
The first case of this new infectious variant in this country was an international traveler arriving in Cali from the United States.
The president emphasized the fact that new variants will come at a relatively positive time for the country, given the decline in cases.
Authorities called for more attention to biosecurity protocols.
As of July 20, the first delta variant detected in India in October 2020 has spread to more than 100 countries, according to the World Health Organization.
