Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis On Friday he claimed to have “awakened the number of math”, and he doesn’t like it.
In a Tampa speech to Moms for Liberty, a conservative group that opposes some aspects of public education, the Republicans described a mysterious (and non-existent) form of mathematics.
DeSantis could not figure out exactly what “awakened mathematics” was. He suggested that it was a math that took little consideration of correct calculations.
“I think 2 plus 2 is equal to 4. 2 plus 2 is not equal to 4. What do you think about it? Is it wrong?” He explained. “
“No. We must teach our children to get the right answer.”
He boasted that Florida had sent the “Awakened Math” textbook back to the publisher. They “woke up and sent us back a regular math book,” DeSantis said.
Even for DeSantis, it was a headache.
Earlier this year, the Florida Department of Education shipped thousands of textbooks. Most of them were for students from kindergarten to 4th grade and were returned to the publisher. But in the case of math textbooks, it wasn’t because, as DeSantis argued, the lessons took an “everything” approach to math.
The Ministry of Education released the image to the media in April 4 pages that are said to have “awakened mathematics” In the returned textbook. For example, one included a bar graph showing that people over the age of 65 and political conservatives tended to express more racial prejudice.
The move is part of Florida’s ongoing conservative efforts to limit school education on racism and LGBTQ issues, the latter of which is the new “Don’t say gay“Law.
One of the hundreds of Florida people reviewing state school textbooks earlier this year flatly pointed out to the Ministry of Education that the restrictions were simply “unrelated to math textbooks.” The Washington Post reported..
