Detroit (AP) — Ford is recalling more than 650,000 pickup trucks and large SUVs in the United States because windshield wipers can break and fail.
The recall is targeted at specific F-150 pickups, as well as the 2020 and 2021 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs. Also included are F-250, 350, 450 and 550 trucks from 2020 to 2022.
Ford’s F-series pickups are the best-selling cars in the United States.
The company said in a document posted Thursday by US safety regulators that the wiper’s teeth weren’t the right height. This can cause the wiper arm to come off. According to the document, a malfunction of the wiper arm can reduce visibility and increase the risk of collision.
The dealer will replace both windshield wiper arms. Owners will be notified by letter from May 23rd.
According to Ford Motor Co., as of February 25, 754 wiper arm malfunctions have been reported. Some trucks were manufactured with high torque wiper motors due to the global shortage of computer chips.
