Chicago Police officer Eric Stillman is preparing for further protests on Friday after officials have released a graphic body camera video showing that he shot and killed a 13-year-old boy who appears to be raising his hand.
A nine-minute video from Stillman’s body camera showed a 34-year-old policeman chasing after him. Adam Toledo March 29, 2:30 am, in the alley of Little Village, a Mexican neighborhood on the west side of the city.
The policeman shouts to Toledo, “Stop.” Toledo begins raising his hand less than a second before the policeman shoots and kills him.
In a later video, 34-year-old Stillman sheds light on a pistol on the ground near Toledo’s body.
A small group of protesters gathered at the police station and marched downtown Thursday night. They met a helmeted police officer and social media images showed, but there were no immediate reports of the conflict.
Meanwhile, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has accused the prosecutor of making a mistake when he first claimed that Toledo had a false gun.
“The prosecutor’did not make a mistake’. He lied,” the Democratic Party representative tweeted.
“He lied about the police killing the child.
“Ending this is not just the result of who triggers it. It is the recognition and confrontation of the entire system that exists to protect, defend and obscure national violence.”
