Quetta, Pakistan-A methane gas explosion at a coal mine in southwestern Pakistan killed four workers early Saturday and rescued three from a partially collapsed mine, officials said.
Abdul Ghani, the chief inspector of the mine, said the explosion took place in the Sula Gazugai mine area on the outskirts of Quetta, and the mine was operating illegally. He said the rescued workers were not in a position to provide details, so the owner or contractor associated with the mine could not be found after the explosion.
Gani said the mine was being thoroughly investigated to ensure that no one else was trapped deep inside the collapsed mine.
Compromised safety conditions and lack of proper training for miners have caused similar incidents in Pakistani mines.
