government. GenDue to illness, Mary Simon will be absent from the Order of Canada ceremony at Rideau Hall.
In a written statement, a spokesperson said it was “extremely regrettable” that Simon would not be presiding over the ceremony. This news was announced just before the ceremony began.
According to the statement, Simon is following the same advice given to other Canadians and staying home “to protect others from getting sick” when he doesn’t feel well.
Rideau Hall says former governor Michael Jean has agreed to lead the event instead.
Today at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, 48 individuals will be invested in various levels of the Order of Canada.
The Order of Canada is one of the highest honors bestowed upon an individual for service and service to the country.
