Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey has officially entered his acquittal for sexual assault charges dating back 17 years.
The 62-year-old Hollywood star stood at Old Bailey’s Court One dock and denied five allegations about three men now in their thirties and forties.
Spacey was listed by Kevin Spacey Fowler’s full name and appeared directly on bail with unconditional bail.
Wearing a blue suit and a blue tie with pink polka dots, he spoke to confirm his name and date of birth.
He then spoke clearly because he denied four accusations of sexual assault and one count of engaging a person in permeable sexual activity without consent.
The alleged crimes are said to have occurred in London and Gloucestershire between 2005 and 2013.
At that time, Spacey was the artistic director of the Old Vic Theater in London.
Justice Wall has set up a three- to four-week trial starting June 6th next year.
The senior judge said the case would be transferred to Old Bailey unless the date was accepted at the Southwark Crown Court.
Further hearings will take place in early 2023.
The judge allowed Spacey to continue unconditional bail.
Spacey thanked the judge at the end of the 15-minute hearing.
The star was represented by defense counsel Patrick Gibbs QC, and Christine Agnew QC charged the crown.
The historic wooden panel court was full of journalists sitting in rows of benches.
Meanwhile, a large crowd of photographers and TV crews gathered outside.
Spacey, who left the courtroom, did not comment because he was guided to a car with a driver whose windows were darkened.
The House of Cards star has an address in Waterloo, south of London, but also lives in the United States, where he has a family and a nine-year-old dog.
At the first court hearing in the Magistrates’ Court in Westminster last month, Spacey’s lawyer Patrick Gibbs QC said his client “has violently denied any crime in this case.”
Gibbs said Spacey returned to Britain “to establish his innocence” and “to advance his life.”
The accusations include two counts of sexual assaults against men in their 40s, which took place in London in March 2005. Sexual assault on a man now in his thirties in London in August 2008, and having him engage in penetrating sexual activity without consent. Sexual assault on a man in his thirties in Gloucestershire in April 2013.
The public prosecutor’s office approved the charges against Spacey in May, but he was officially charged only after traveling to the United Kingdom last month.
Two-time Academy Award-winning Spacey is known for her appearances in American Beauty and The Usual Suspects.
He was Artistic Director of The Old Vic from 2004 to 2015.
