After buying the house, Nike executive Cain extended his stay in Shanghai until 2013. Later that year, the company moved him to the Netherlands and he lived with his family until 2018.

Cain has refurbished a two-story home three times in the last decade of 2011, 2015 and 2018. Various parts of the house were remodeled every time.
According to Cain, remodeling was primarily focused on home maintenance and modernization.
“Architecturally, nothing has changed from the original design,” he said. “But my previous owner didn’t maintain some basics.”
The first round of refurbishment took place between 2011 and 2013 and was completed by his father, a carpenter.
“He never played the role of a general contractor outside my brother’s house, but he took over the refurbishment, such as water management and repairing some of the rails in the house,” he said. “Since it was built in the 1960s, there was nothing safe. There was only a deck without rails.”
Cain also added a black steel fireplace to the living room and installed a new lighting system according to the list.
The open concept kitchen opposite the fireplace in the living room was renewed in the second phase of the renovation.

He added that the old kitchen was almost completely abandoned and his father completed the work of a new carpenter.
In addition to cupboards and countertops, we have installed new appliances such as induction cookers, dishwashers, and electric ovens.
The dining area is by the wall of the window overlooking the surrounding greenery. The sliding door leads to the patio.
Both ends of the upper floors are surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows. Cain said it was one of his favorite parts of the house.
“There’s something about sitting in a living room with a kitchen and creating such a warm wooden space with glass on both ends,” he said. “It’s a very unique room. I can’t think of another room like I’ve ever seen.”
The final stage of the refurbishment took place between 2018 and 2019, concentrated on the lower floors where all four bedrooms are located.
According to the list, the primary bedroom suite was completely updated during this phase. All original built-in furniture was also manually restored, except for the new floor.
According to Cain, the house has a strong influence on Japanese design, as evidenced by the use of natural materials such as bare wood. The large windows throughout the dwelling obscure the line between the inside and the outside.
The private bathroom, separated from the master bedroom by a bathroom, has been completely refurbished to include a circular bathtub and a shower area with underfloor heating.
The residence has another bathroom, which, according to the list, is also downstairs.
When it comes to Cain’s favorite place in the house, the Primary Suite is just around the corner.
“There is a small sauna and a shower overlooking the forest. You can spend the weekend in that bedroom and really enjoy it,” Cain said.
The spacious primary bathroom also has sliding doors leading to a private outdoor patio, as listed.
The roof deck has a shelter that was not in the original building design of 1966.
When the house was built in 1966, according to Liszt, the large roof deck remained completely exposed. However, in 1979, another local architect was asked to add a shelter to the edge of the exposed deck.

Cain and his family were unable to live in Campbell Residence, but during the three renovations the house was occupied by several different tenants.
According to Cain, the filmmaker and his family rented a house after the first refurbishment. After the filmmaker moved to Brooklyn, Cain’s friends began to stay at home. Until January, when Cain was preparing to sell the property, a recent resident family of four lived in the house.
“I love this house, so it’s very sad that I couldn’t live here,” he said. “When the sun comes out, the birds sing and the doors are open, it feels like you’re in the woods. It’s magically, very quiet and quiet.”
