New Delhi — US electric car maker Tesla welcomes the establishment of a shop in India to sell and export cars, but must not import cars from China, the Transport Minister said. Said on Tuesday.
“Manufacturing in China and selling here is not a good proposal,” Minister Nitin Disappointed said at a government meeting.
Tesla is desperate to import and sell electric vehicles in India and has been lobbying for almost a year to reduce tariffs on New Delhi officials. It states that Elon Musk, the company’s billionaire CEO, is the highest in the world.
But that effort has been stalled as Tesla hasn’t disclosed plans to invest in India. This is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” vision, boosting local manufacturing and creating jobs.
