A teacher in Iredel County has been accused of sending nude images and sexually explicit videos to students, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators said they received a debrief on Sept. 22 about April Biney, 44. She has been an English teacher at West Iredale High School since 2019.
Authorities said the victim was a former student at Vinies, a junior at West Iredel. At the time of the incident, the victim was enrolled as an online high school student.
After interviewing witnesses, processing her cell phone and searching Viney’s social media accounts, the sheriff’s office arrested her on Tuesday. Vinny was charged with distributing obscenities.
Channel 9’s Dave Faherty said Viney was at her home Thursday afternoon after a representative said she had filed a $50,000 security deposit. She didn’t want to discuss the allegations, but she said she plans to meet with the school district as early as Friday about her future employment at the school.
Some parents said they couldn’t believe their teachers had been arrested.
“They definitely should know better. You are here to protect your children and to teach them. It will follow,” said her mother, Jessica Bailey.
The school district said Viney’s suspension is now paid.
“I don’t like it because it’s disgusting to me. Now that she’s grown up, she should know better,” said mother Christina Slaughter.
No other details have been made public.
