Japan-US seeks a peaceful solution to the Taiwan Strait issue

Tokyo — A Japanese government spokesman said on Tuesday that US and Japanese leaders called for a peaceful solution to Taiwan’s problems.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno declined to comment at regular press conferences on US President Joe Biden’s previous remarks that he was ready to use his power to protect Taiwan from China.

Biden’s remarks were the latest in a series of clearly out-of-the-box claims suggesting his tendency to defend the island.

However, Prime Minister Matsuno quoted Monday’s summit meeting as saying that the two countries’ positions on Taiwan have not changed.
