Kansas City police surrounded the house with shooting suspects and rescued two children

Update 12:20 pm: Kansas City police said the children were rescued. Standoffs are in progress.

Kansas City police surrounded a house near East 44th Street and Norton Avenue on Saturday morning after the shooting was reported.

Police responded to the area where the woman was shot dead around 9:30 am on Saturday. Kansas City police spokesman Dave Jackson said police had taken her out of the house and taken her to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The shooting suspect was still at home as of Saturday afternoon. Jackson said the suspect refused to go out peacefully.

The two children inside were rescued. The suspect fired several bullets, Jackson said. The Missouri Highway Patrol has been notified.

The negotiator is also on site.
