Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said she was turned away from the mall’s steakhouse because she wore leggings. Bottoms went to Twitter on Friday to share her story.
“I’m wearing leggings, so I’ve just turned my back on the capital grille at Perimeter Mall,” she writes.
Some social media users favored bottoms and said it was ridiculous to have a dress code at a restaurant in the mall.
However, others have pointed out that the restaurant has a dress policy.
Journalist Jemele Hill said he had never seen the same dress code in other Capital Grille locations.
Capital grille in the Buckhead district of Atlanta issued “Polite notice” on the website.
“We need proper clothing to better fulfill our promise of comfort and sophistication for all our guests,” the policy states. “Thank you for not wearing: gym clothing, sweatpants, tank tops, hats, clothing with offensive words and images, exposed underwear.”
Still, Bottoms questioned whether the rules apply to everyone.
“It’s strange that a restaurant in a mall parking lot keeps customers away in” mall “dress,” she writes. She said, “I was asked if I could sit in the bar area and said no.” The rule is the rule. I suspect that the woman I didn’t see who came in right after me was also denied service. “
