MANILA, Philippines — A Korean Air plane overshot the runway as it landed in bad weather in central Philippines late Sunday, but officials said all 173 people on board were safe.
The airport on Mactan Island in Cebu province has been closed indefinitely due to a stalled aircraft, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said.
Photos released by the company showed the lower front part of the aircraft partially peeled off, but the airline and the aviation authority have not disclosed details of the damage.
“All passengers are safe and escorted by ground personnel,” the Philippine Aviation Authority said in a statement.
An Airbus A330 from Incheon, South Korea, attempted to land twice but overran the runway on the third attempt, Korean Air said in a statement.
All passengers were evacuated on the plane’s escape slide, it said.
The airline said it was trying to determine the cause of the incident.
At least four inbound flights were diverted to Manila and nearby airports, the Philippine Aviation Authority said.
