Long-time Springfield educator dies of accidentally complicated brain cancer in Effingham County

A man in Springfield died Thursday night in Effingham County on April 19 with a brain cancer complicated by two vehicles.

Microphone filter62, Vice-Principal, Teacher, Coach Luther High School In Springfield for over 30 years before leaving in 2018.

Since 2018, Filter has been a teacher at the Sangamon County Learning Academy at the Capital Area Career Center.

Illinois police said the accident happened at Intersection of US Route 40 and Illinois 128.. The intersection is between the towns of St. Elmo and Altamont, just north of Interstate 70.

The ISP reported that Filter’s wife, Laura Filter, 63, was driving the Illinois 128 south. Filter’s car collided with a pickup truck driven by Tracy Evans, 48, of Vandelia. Evans was Route 40 to the east.

The accident is under investigation by the ISP.

Both the microphone filter and the roller filter were airlifted HSHS St. John’s Hospital.. Evans refused treatment.

According to a family spokesman, Laura Filter has been released from the hospital.

As a Lutheran head baseball coach, Filter led the school to the only regional title in 1993.
