Male suspect arrested after pushing dead woman in downtown Toronto


Toronto police arrested a suspect in the murder of a woman in the city’s downtown area Friday morning.

In a statement on Twitter, police said officers arrived in the area near Yonge Street and King Street around 11:40 a.m. on Jan. 20 in response to reports that a man had assaulted a woman.

Police said the suspect, who was around 40 years old, had red hair in braids, a beard and was skinny, was arrested around 2 p.m. update statement From Toronto Police.

At a press conference, Toronto Police Insp. Craig Young said the suspect pushed a woman who was at least 70 years old. The Toronto Star reportedThe woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the suspect fled the scene after being assaulted, but was later arrested near Young and Richmond streets.

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy before investigating the case as a homicide, Young said, and the suspect is now facing an aggravated assault charge.
