Minister today announcing changes to COVID 19 border restrictions

Health Minister Ottawa-Jean-Yves Duclos will announce significant changes to border measures designed to counter the epidemic of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 at 1:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.

Currently, the government is advising all non-essential overseas travel due to the threat posted by the Omicron variant.

Foreigners and people traveling domestically by plane, passenger train, or boat to Canada are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19, with a few exceptions.

Currently, vaccinated international travelers may be subject to COVID-19 testing requirements before crossing the border and upon arrival at a Canadian airport.

Travelers staying outside Canada or the United States should also be quarantined until the post-arrival test is negative.

At a press conference last week, Duclos suggested tweaking the measures, saying that the worst of the Omicron waves is now behind us.
