Multiple deaths in shooting at San Jose depot

San Jose, Calif. (AP) —Sheriff spokesman said a gun battle broke out at a depot in San Jose on Wednesday, killing multiple people and killing suspects.

Deputy Secretary of State Russell Davis, Sheriff’s spokesman for Santa Clara County, said he could not identify the number of dead and injured or explain how the suspect died.

The shoot was taken at a light rail facility next to the sheriff’s department, across the freeway from the airport. This facility is a transit control center that stores trains and has a maintenance yard.

Victims include employees of the Valley Transport Authority, Davis said.

VTA provides buses, light rail and other transportation services throughout Santa Clara County, the largest Silicon Valley home in the Bay Area.

The agency spokesperson did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment.

“It’s heartbreaking for the family lost in this horrific shooting,” San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said on Twitter.

Governor Gavin Newsom said in a tweet that his office “is in close contact with local law enforcement agencies and is closely monitoring the situation.”

According to officials, the FBI and special agents of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were responding to the crime scene.
