Nadal ‘very excited’ for Federer’s Laver Cup return

Roger Federer hasn’t played a tennis match in over a year. Like many fans, Rafa Nadal can’t wait to see the Swiss great back in action next month.

Federer hasn’t played since last year’s Wimbledon after undergoing another surgery on his knee that plagued the 41-year-old in the twilight of his illustrious career.

The 20-time Grand Slam singles champion will team up with longtime rival and friend Nadal to play doubles at the Laver Cup in London before heading to the Swiss Indoor Tournament in Basel in September. I plan to return to next month.

“Of course I’m very excited to see Roger on the court again,” Nadal, who won a record 22 Grand Slam titles, told reporters on Friday ahead of the US Open.

“I hope he’s healthy enough to make it happen. But let’s see.”

Federer has had three knee surgeries in the past two years and has not played since losing to Hubert Hürkatz in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2021.

But despite not playing for nearly 14 months, the Swiss continues to top the list of the world’s highest-paid tennis players for 17 straight years, proving his popularity in the sport. I am emphasizing.

Federer’s recent knee problems have left experts and fans wondering how long it will be before the father of four decides to ditch his tennis racket.

“Health and happiness are the most important things at this stage of his career, right?” Nadal said.

“If he’s healthy and happy enough to be back on the tennis tour, (that’s) great. If not, we can appreciate all he’s accomplished.

“I’m sure I’ll be sticking with Roger for some time. Yeah, I can’t wait to share the squad with him at the Laver Cup.”
